Vision

The International Cooperation & Communication Center of Forestry Economics is an
academic and policy research institute in association with the School of Economics and
Management at Beijing Forestry University. The center was formally established in
August 1997, aiming at researching, training and consulting for forestry project. With
providing well-equipped research facilities and an international forum for scholarly
activities such as seminars and conferences, the Center is a network of outstanding
researchers based throughout China and abroad, who collaborate through the Center
in research, training programs, consulting, and other related academic activities. The
activities of the center will promote the academic research level of the forestry
economics as well as do contribution to the policy of forestry and environment
construction in China.

Research

By July 2002, the center has completed more than 30 research projects. Among those
projects, more than 10 are international projects. The center has published more than 10
books and more than 100 papers.

Cooperation

The Center regularly organizes research work shops, seminars and conferences. Since
establishment, the Center has hosted three international symposiums on the topics of
“Forestry Project Management”, “Wetland Management” and “Sustainable Development
of Nature Reserves”. We have invited five famous international experts as center’s
adjunct professors.

At present, the center held 9 research programs sponsored by international
organizations the total research funds amounts are more than RMB 5 million. In 2001,
the center was success in bidding for the international project, which is with fund 540
thousand US dollars. The widely collaboration with sister institutions in forestry
economics and natural resources economics has been established.

 

Operation

The center is an open research organization and draws creative researchers from
various backgrounds including public service as well as academia.

The director is responsible for the overall management of the center, while the research
groups responsible for the specific research programs.

 

Education and training

By 1997, 20 people have graduated from the Center, including 5 Ph. D students, 15
master degrees students. Currently, we have 20 Ph. D candidates and 32 master
students.

 

Researchers

The staff of the center are from Beijing Forestry University and sister institutions. At
present, the center has 5 permanent researchers, 10 researchers from other institutions
in Beijing Forestry University, 10 researchers in other Chinese institutions and 5
international schlars.
