Foping NR was added to the UNESCO's World
Network of Biosphere Reserves
Foping National Nature Reserve were approved to be add to the UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves by the International Co-ordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme at its 18th Session from 25 to 29 October 2004 (UNESCO Headquarters). Therefore, Foping NR is the first reserve in Shaanxi Province and the 25th reserve became the member of UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves. It's the milestone in the history of development of Foping NR and reserves of Shaanxi Province.
Foping National Nature Reserve is well-known for the "Dandan", the unique brown giant panda in the world. Foping NR is the highest density area of wild giant panda population. Through two decades efforts, Foping NR has become one of the most important reserves to save the giant panda and its habitat by the excellent natural conservation and scientific research activities.
So far, The World Network of Biosphere Reserves now consists of 459 sites in 97 countries.
