Location Laoxiancheng Nature Reserve is located at the headwaters of Xushui River on the southern slope of the middle Qinling Mountains, it is an important area to join Zhouzhi, Foping, Changqing and Taibaishan Nature Reserves, making several insular habitats link up into a single stretch.
	To vertebrate population in the Qinling Mountains, especially the gene of giant panda's stock exchanges and population rejuvenates, it plays an important role, being called as the ‘heat’ of the habitats of Giant Panda in the Qinling Mountains.It is one of the highest-density distribution areas . The whole area is 126 sq.km..
Biology Resources Great abundant biology resources in Laoxiancheng Nature Reserve, including 263 species of wild vertebrates, among them 6 species of the first rank are Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), Golden Monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellanae), Golden Takin (Budorcas taxicolor), Leopard (Panthera pardus), Musk Deer(Moschus berezovskii ), Golden Eagle(Aquila chrysaetos dophanea ) , and 24 species of the second rank.
At the same time, 1146 species of wild seed plants, 471 genera, 112 families, which account for 70% of the total number of seed plants in the Qinling Mountains, 2 species that Hongdou Fir (Taxus chinensis) and One flower Kingdonia (Kingdonia uniflora) have been listed in the first rank protection plant , and more than 10 species such as Chinese Larch (Larix chinensis), Shuiqing Tree (Tetracentron sinensis)、Qinling Fir (Abies chensiensis)、Lianxiang Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum)、Shuiqu Willow (Fraxinus mandschurica)、Newveitch Spruce (Picea neoveitchii) are involved in the second rank category.
	With the complicated and manifold geographical composition, the Reserve is an overlap range of many species of fauna, also is the transition zone between the northern and southern fauna.
Among 30 species listed main protection by the state, Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), Golden Monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellanae) and Golden Takin (Budorcas taxicolor) are typical " flagship species", greatly being regarded by Zoological Society. The Reserve is an ideal place to study on the protected species to adapt surroundings, also is a gene pool of protecting and breeding the hereditary diversity of rare species,having important scientific research value.

Natural Landscape Vegetation Laoxiancheng has abundant species of plants, obviously change in seasons, the exuberant forest, rare species of ancient and well-known trees, unusual flowers and herbs, precious unique vegetation etc., forming a multicoloured landscape of wild plants.
	Animal In the Reserve, there are 263 species of wild vertebrates, 188 species of birds. Among them 6 species with Rank 1 under the state protection: Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), Golden Monkey(Rhinopithecus roxellana ), Golden Takin(Budorcas taxicolor), Musk Deer (Moschus berezovskii Flerov ), and Leopard (Panthera pardus fusca Meyer ) etc.
Small-figure beasts and birds haunt frequently, regardless of in the meadow or in the grove. Standing on the top of Guangtoushan Mountaintops, you can take a peep at the vision that groups of takins appear among the meadows, charmingly and naive giant pandas look for foods in the bamboo grove, alert and nimble golden monkeys play among the crowns of trees. “The firmament is vast, the weald is illimitable, and the wild animals are busy to shuttle back and forth ”. A spectacular scene!
	Massif The mesa of Laoxiancheng Nature Reserve is about 5 kilometers long and 800 meters wide formed to be alluvions under river rushing, is typical landscape of basin among the mountains.
South away from the city 2km is the Guanshan Mountain which looks like a pate, east is the Luban Peak, north is the Yaowang Cave and the Yuxi Rock in the Zheng River etc., all those compose multiform massif landscape.
Water Landscape The Xushui River is about 20km long flowing from the east westwards, forms the meandering brook landscape. At the same time, the Ling Spring and the Louze Spring at the southern of the city, the Yangsi Gen. Spring of Dudumen, and the “small water curtain” of Qinglongzhai, form the graceful spring landscape.
Humanity Foping City was set up here in the fourth year of Daoguang（in 1824）in Qing Dynasty . At that time it was politics, culture, economic center of Foping county, also is the traffic hub from Chang’an to Hanzhong, the exchange center of the northern and southern goods and materials.
	Foping County Seat moved to the Yuanjiazhuang in 1925, this county with history of 100 years old became desolation from then on, out of flourishing, forgotten in the remote and, thickly forested mountains, leave a permanent elegant name —— Age-old County for it so far, said jokingly to be " Ghosty Town" by people.
A lot of relics have been left in Laoxiancheng County at present, such as Ancient City Wall, Wen temple, Chenghuang Temple, Ling Spring, etc. This mysterious and solemn history cause people thinking ceaselessly.

Traffic Travel to east 180km from Laoxiancheng Nature Reserve is Xi’an city, to south 297km is Hanzhong city, to west 106km is Baoji city, and to north 150km is Xianyang city, the traffic extends in all direction.

Climate Laoxiancheng Nature Reserve lies in the southernmost region of warm temperate zone which is located in the northwestern party of China of middle latitudes zone. It is a typical of Inferior alpine climate characteristic, cold and long in winter, no heat in summer, much rain and low temperature in autumn, annual rainfall is about 2000 mm.
